President Donald Trump issued a grim update on Thanksgiving after learning that twenty-year-old U.S. Army National Guard Specialist Sarah Beckstrom of West Virginia had died from her wounds following a brutal ambush in the heart of Washington DC. Her fellow Guardsman, twenty-four-year-old U.S. Air National Guard Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, also from West Virginia, remains hospitalized and “fighting for his life,” according to Trump.
Both service members were gunned down just blocks from the White House on the eve of Thanksgiving, turning what should have been a peaceful holiday into a national tragedy.
Beckstrom’s father, shattered and grieving, confirmed the devastating news in a heartbreaking message. “My baby girl has passed to glory,” he wrote. “If I don’t talk to you don’t be offend this has been a horrible tragedy.”

The alleged shooter is Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan national who entered the United States in 2021 under President Joe Biden’s Operation Allies Welcome program, Fox News reported. According to three law-enforcement sources, Lakanwal came in on “humanitarian parole,” the same pipeline that brought tens of thousands of migrants into the country after the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal.
