“These actions today don’t limit your freedoms at all. Being shot dead in your school certainly does,” Walz told reporters, flanked by gun control activists.¹
But local gun leaders weren’t impressed. Bryan Strawser, chairman of the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus, called out the orders for what they are: political theater.
“What we got today were low-impact orders that serve more as political cover than meaningful policy,” Strawser said. “It’s a distraction from the fact that the governor couldn’t build support for his agenda within his own party.”²
The orders create a “Statewide Safety Council” and expand red flag laws, allowing authorities to seize firearms from citizens without due process. Walz also directed insurance companies to hand over “detailed policy and claims data involving firearms” — a backdoor registry tracking lawful gun owners.³
A Long History of Betrayal
Randy Kozuch of the NRA Political Victory Fund summed up Walz’s transformation bluntly.
“Tim Walz is a political chameleon—changing his positions to further his own personal agenda,” Kozuch said.⁴
Walz spent years courting gun owners. From 2010 to 2016, he earned straight A ratings from the NRA and was named one of Guns & Ammo’s “top 20 politicians for gun owners” in 2016.⁵ He openly promoted his NRA endorsement, boasting of his commitment to the Second Amendment.
“Growing up, hunting taught me a lot about responsibility and respect. Lessons I hope to pass on to my kids. I’m proud to stand with the NRA to protect the rights of sportsmen and gun owners,” Walz declared in 2010.⁶
But once Walz set his sights on the governor’s mansion, his allegiance shifted. He pledged to donate $18,000 in NRA contributions to charity — a move many see as symbolic at best. By 2018, he was openly calling for assault weapons bans and universal background checks.
“I had an A rating from the NRA. Now I get straight F’s. And I sleep just fine,” Walz bragged on social media.⁷
Authoritarian Tendencies in Plain Sight
The executive orders reveal Walz’s willingness to bypass the democratic process when it doesn’t suit him. His attempt to pass an assault weapons ban after last summer’s shootings failed, even within his own party, as three Democratic senators — Grant Hauschild, Rob Kupec, and Judy Seeberger — opposed his proposals.⁸
Rather than respect their decisions, Walz chose unilateral action. Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson condemned the move, stating:
“Executive action to study and educate the public on gun safety are not actual solutions to keeping kids safe in school,” Johnson said. “Governor Walz signed a bill to release violent criminals from prison and overwhelmed school budgets with unfunded mandates.”⁹
The reality is harsh: these orders won’t prevent crime. Their purpose is control. The insurance data collection scheme, in particular, sets a dangerous precedent. Minnesota becomes the first state to force insurers to report detailed information on firearm ownership — effectively creating a registry that could pave the way for confiscation.
For 12 years, Walz leveraged the trust of gun owners to secure his political career. Now, those same Americans face the consequences of his betrayal. Second Amendment advocates must remember this deception if they intend to defend their constitutional freedoms.

Well. This goes to show you. That a democrat is the devil, that speaks with a forked tongue. And democrats are nothing but liars. That`s all.
