Minnesota Lawmaker Killed—Shooter Posed as Cop!

The Brooklyn Park Police Department launched a shelter-in-place advisory early Saturday, covering a three-mile radius near Edinburgh Golf Course as the hunt for the suspect intensified.

One Lawmaker Dead, Another Clings to Life

The brutal rampage took the life of Melissa Hortman—once the state’s House Speaker and a prominent figure in the Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party—alongside her husband. Meanwhile, State Senator John Hoffman and his wife survived the violent ambush but suffered multiple gunshot wounds and underwent emergency surgery.

“The Hoffmans are out of surgery at this time and receiving care, and we are cautiously optimally optimistic, they will survive this assassination attempt,” announced Minnesota Governor Tim Walz in a statement Saturday.

The chilling incident has prompted a statewide law enforcement mobilization, with the FBI now joining the investigation and every Minnesota state legislator placed under protective watch.

Panic at the Capitol

The shootings sent shockwaves through Minnesota’s political landscape, with lawmakers and local officials expressing disbelief and fear for their own safety.

“I’m just learning of the events that took place last night due to getting a safety alert for elected officials. I never thought we’d be here. My prayers are with the Hortman and Hoffman families,” posted Mounds View Mayor Zach Lindstrom on X.

While authorities haven’t released a motive, the calculated nature of the assault—targeting elected representatives in their homes—has already raised serious national security concerns.

Governor Activates State Resources

Governor Walz attempted to reassure residents as the manhunt widened. “Local law enforcement in Champlin and Brooklyn Park have the full resources of the State of Minnesota behind them,” he said. “We are monitoring the situation closely and will share more information soon.”

As of Saturday morning, no arrests have been made. The suspect is considered armed, dangerous, and possibly still impersonating law enforcement to evade capture. Officials are urging the public not to approach anyone matching the suspect’s description and to call 911 immediately.

A Nation on Edge

With the FBI involved and lawmakers under 24/7 protection, the attack has triggered widespread alarm about the vulnerability of elected officials and the disturbing rise in political violence across the country.

What began as a typical June weekend in Minnesota has now become a statewide lockdown. And until this impersonating gunman is caught, no lawmaker is truly safe.

This is a developing story.
