On Wednesday’s episode, which featured director Spike Lee as a guest, Michelle shared the story of her first date with Barack, saying he had planned “a beautiful day” that ended with a screening of Lee’s iconic 1989 film Do the Right Thing.
“Do the Right Thing is the kind of movie that after you watch it, you gotta talk about it, you know?” Michelle told Lee and her brother. “I found out his character—did he see what I see? Did he have the feelings I felt? Did he get what I got out of the movie? So we talked for hours after the movie like everyone would tend to do, and I would say that that date probably sealed the deal.”
Michelle admitted she was hesitant at first about dating Barack since they both worked at the same Chicago law firm—and she was actually assigned as his mentor.
“We worked in the same place, we were probably one of a handful of Black folks, but he was persistent,” Michelle said. “So I acquiesced.”
She added that the date stretched on for hours, including a visit to the Art Institute for “walking” and “talking,” before ending the night with dinner at Lake Point Tower.
On a previous podcast episode, Michelle reflected on the ups and downs of their relationship, saying:
“There hasn’t been one moment in our marriage where I’ve thought about quitting on my man, and we’ve had some really hard times. We’ve had a lot of fun times, a lot of adventures, and I have become a better person because of the man I’m married to.”
Barack, appearing on that same episode, responded emotionally: “OK, don’t make me cry now right at the beginning of the show. Don’t let me start tearing up now!”
While Michelle shared personal memories, legal battles involving the Obama administration are heating up.
For three years, Republican lawyer Mike Davis has demanded federal probes into top Democrats, including Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Hillary Clinton. Now, Attorney General Pam Bondi has authorized new investigations into possible misconduct during the 2016 election.
Davis celebrated the move, saying: “This is the greatest conspiracy in American history. There must be the most severe legal, political and financial consequences for this unprecedented weaponization. This must never happen again.”
