U.S. Border Patrol just shut down a massive underground drug pipeline that proves the border crisis is far from over. Agents discovered a secret tunnel stretching nearly 3,000 feet from Tijuana, Mexico, into a warehouse district in Otay Mesa, right outside San Diego.
Officials revealed that the tunnel wasn’t some crude hole in the ground. It had electricity, lighting, ventilation, and even a rail system designed to move narcotics quickly and in bulk. Authorities say it was built by the notorious Sinaloa Cartel — the same cartel once commanded by Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.
Cartel Engineering Beneath the Border
The tunnel began beneath a private home in Tijuana, where the entrance was hidden under newly tiled flooring. From there, it snaked 50 feet below the surface, measuring just 42 inches high and 28 inches wide. Despite being unfinished, the tunnel showed every sign of becoming a major smuggling route into the United States.
