The Money Trail
According to Politico, the newly created MAGA KY PAC has raised $2 million in a matter of weeks with the goal of defeating Massie in the upcoming Republican primary. The funding includes:
- $1 million from hedge fund billionaire Paul Singer
- $250,000 from John Paulson
- $750,000 from Preserve America PAC, tied to GOP megadonor Miriam Adelson
The big-money push against Massie comes as he’s become a thorn in the side of party leadership and even former President Trump.
Paulson’s Political Influence
Paulson, who made billions betting against the housing market before the 2008 crash, is the founder and CEO of Paulson & Co., a New York investment management firm. He’s long been known as one of the Republican Party’s most influential donors.
WATCH:
In 2024, Paulson hosted a Trump fundraiser at his Palm Beach estate that pulled in more than $50 million in one night. His financial clout inside GOP politics is enormous — which makes Massie’s public rebuke all the more explosive.
Trump Declares War on Massie
Massie’s defiance has not gone unnoticed. Earlier this year, Trump himself publicly called for a primary challenge against the Kentucky congressman.
“Congressman Thomas Massie, of beautiful Kentucky, is an automatic ‘NO’ vote on just about everything, despite the fact that he has always voted for Continuing Resolutions in the past. HE SHOULD BE PRIMARIED, and I will lead the charge against him. He’s just another GRANDSTANDER, who’s too much trouble, and not worth the fight,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Trump even compared Massie to Liz Cheney, saying, “He reminds me of Liz Chaney before her historic, record breaking fall (loss!). The people of Kentucky won’t stand for it, just watch. DO I HAVE ANY TAKERS???”
“They’re Being Threatened”
Massie’s remarks came just after a press conference featuring Epstein’s victims, where he doubled down on the pressure campaign being waged against him.
Reporter: “Thomas, what’s some of the kickback you’re getting from your colleagues? Are there reasons why they don’t want to endorse this?”
Massie: “They’re being threatened. I mean, look, I’ve got $2 million of ads running against me back in my district, and it’s funded by three billionaires. One of them is in Epstein’s Black Book. I mean, this is what happens. Your consultants will abandon you. When the White House gets mad at you, the Speaker will block all of your bills. They’ll shut down your fundraising. The opposition to this is very political.”
The Bigger Picture
The clash between Massie and the GOP establishment reveals a deeper battle inside the Republican Party. On one side are grassroots conservatives who see Massie as a defender of liberty and transparency. On the other are megadonors and party elites who view him as a problem to be eliminated.
By calling out Paulson by name — and tying him to Epstein’s “Black Book” — Massie is not just pushing back. He’s raising the stakes of the fight and putting the spotlight on the shadowy alliances driving campaign money and political pressure in Washington.
Whether his gamble pays off remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the Kentucky congressman isn’t backing down, no matter how much billionaire cash gets thrown against him.
