New York Attorney General Letitia James, a key Democrat figure and well-known critic of President Donald Trump, is now under federal scrutiny herself. A grand jury has been convened in Virginia to investigate explosive allegations that James may have committed mortgage fraud and submitted falsified legal documents to obtain more favorable loan terms.
At the heart of the probe is a power-of-attorney document dated 2023, in which James allegedly declared a property in Norfolk, Virginia as her “principal residence.” The catch? At the time, she was actively serving as the Empire State’s top law enforcement officer and residing in Brooklyn, New York. This declaration, if found to be false, could constitute a serious offense.
Adding to the suspicious circumstances, reports suggest James may have also misrepresented details about her Brooklyn brownstone. The AG reportedly claimed the building contained four units in order to qualify for better mortgage rates. However, city records clearly list the structure as a five-unit property—raising even more red flags.
Digging deeper, investigators have reportedly uncovered a mortgage application from decades ago where James and her father were listed as “husband and wife.” Such a glaring inaccuracy on official documents may further complicate her legal situation and undermine her credibility.
