LA Times Editor QUITS in Kamala Endorsement Showdown!

In a shocking move, the top editorial page editor of the liberal Los Angeles Times, Mariel Garza, has stepped down, citing pressure from the paper’s owner, Patrick Soon-Shiong, to remain neutral in the upcoming presidential election. The situation has caused quite a stir, as the Times has a long-standing tradition of endorsing candidates in major elections. Garza’s resignation comes after the paper announced it would not be endorsing either President Joe Biden’s running mate, Kamala Harris, or former President Donald Trump.

Earlier this week, the Los Angeles Times declared that it would break from tradition and refrain from endorsing any presidential candidate in 2024, a decision that has raised eyebrows in both political and media circles. On Thursday, Garza resigned, criticizing Soon-Shiong for what she described as an effort to silence her support for Harris. “I am resigning because I want to make it clear that I am not okay with us being silent,” Garza told the Columbia Journalism Review. “In dangerous times, honest people need to stand up. This is how I’m standing up.”

According to Garza, Soon-Shiong, who purchased the newspaper in 2018 for $500 million, shut down the effort. The decision to withhold an endorsement was delivered through the paper’s editor, Terry Tang.
