Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem lit up the political landscape with a blistering takedown of New York City’s failed sanctuary city experiment—one that nearly got a federal officer killed. After a brutal attack in Manhattan involving two illegal immigrants, Noem didn’t pull any punches—and neither did President Trump.
What should have been a peaceful night turned into a war zone when an off-duty U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer found himself staring down the barrel of a gun in Fort Washington Park. He was sitting with a female companion when two men on a moped rolled up around midnight and attempted to rob them.
The suspects—both illegal aliens—reportedly pulled a firearm, triggering a shootout. The officer was shot in the face and arm, but not before wounding one of the attackers. The suspects fled, but not for long.
One suspect, Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, a 21-year-old illegal immigrant from the Dominican Republic, was later found in a Bronx hospital with bullet wounds. Authorities tracked down and arrested the second suspect, Christhian Aybar-Berroa, also a Dominican national in the U.S. illegally.
