The battlefield in Ukraine is undergoing another technological transformation—and this time, the machines are attacking from the ground.
Ukraine says a new generation of unmanned ground vehicles helped its forces inflict heavy casualties on Russian troops and reclaim significant territory in the Donetsk region during a months-long operation that officials are calling a major breakthrough in modern warfare.
According to the New York Post, Ukrainian officials said robotic assault systems were credited with killing roughly 3,000 Russian soldiers and helping retake approximately 48 square miles of territory. Ukrainian forces reportedly regained control of five villages and three additional settlements during the operation.
The campaign, known as “Operation Vivaldi,” began in May and concluded in late September.
