U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro is taking direct aim at fraud against the federal government with the creation of a new division inside the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.
The office announced Wednesday that it has established the Fraud and Asset Recovery Division, bringing prosecutors, investigators and financial specialists under one roof to pursue civil fraud cases and recover money allegedly owed to the federal government.
The move puts a major emphasis on protecting taxpayer dollars and comes as President Donald Trump’s administration continues its broader push against waste, fraud and abuse throughout the federal government.
Pirro said the new structure is designed to reinforce that effort and make clear that those who exploit federal programs will face consequences.
