A volatile protest near the official residence of New York City’s mayor erupted into chaos after suspected Islamic extremists allegedly hurled nail-filled explosive devices toward a group of Christian demonstrators and police officers, triggering a major law enforcement response and a terrorism investigation.
Authorities confirmed that multiple arrests were made following the alarming incident, which unfolded near Gracie Mansion on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The explosive devices, described as improvised nail bombs packed with metal fragments, landed dangerously close to protesters and New York City Police Department officers.
The confrontation began as two opposing groups gathered for demonstrations that quickly spiraled into confrontation.
Rival Protests Spark Tension Near Mayor’s Residence
The unrest started Saturday morning when a small group of Christian protesters gathered to demonstrate against what they described as the growing “Islamification” of New York City. The rally was organized by controversial activist Jake Lang and reportedly attracted around two dozen participants.
Across the street, a much larger group of counter-protesters assembled to challenge the demonstration. Authorities estimated that roughly 125 people joined the opposing rally.
