In a sweeping move to cement law and order, New Hampshire has officially shut the door on sanctuary city policies — a controversial practice where local officials shield illegal immigrants from federal authorities. The newly signed legislation makes the Granite State the eleventh in the nation to outlaw these defiant city policies that often place progressive ideology above public safety.
Governor Kelly Ayotte, a no-nonsense Republican with a track record of getting things done, sealed the deal with her signature on House Bill 511 and Senate Bill 62 during a Thursday ceremony at the State Capitol. These measures ensure local law enforcement must now cooperate with federal immigration agents, ending any ambiguity about where the state stands.
“There will be no sanctuary cities in New Hampshire, period, end of story,” declared Governor Ayotte with conviction.
The move fulfills a signature campaign promise that Ayotte made loud and clear on the trail. Her message to voters was simple: New Hampshire won’t become the next Massachusetts — a state mired in what she called a “billion-dollar illegal immigrant crisis.”
