The murder case against the man accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk has cleared another major legal hurdle, with a Utah judge ruling that the defendant must stand trial on all seven criminal charges filed against him.
The decision by Judge Tony Graf also settled one of the most consequential issues surrounding the case: whether prosecutors can continue pursuing the death penalty against Tyler Robinson.
Graf issued his rulings Tuesday after hearing arguments during Robinson’s preliminary hearing in 4th District Court in Provo. The ruling means prosecutors can move forward with the aggravated murder charge and continue seeking capital punishment if they ultimately satisfy the much higher burden required at trial.
