A federal judge has temporarily stopped the Trump administration from obtaining millions of commercial driver’s license records as a legal battle intensifies over the federal government’s effort to tighten oversight of the trucking industry.
U.S. District Judge Anthony Trenga, a George W. Bush appointee, issued an administrative stay Friday blocking the Department of Homeland Security from accessing approximately 17 million commercial driver’s license records that federal officials had sought through subpoenas.
The order also directs the government to return any documents it has already received and prohibits DHS from reviewing the information while the court considers the underlying legal challenge.
