House Speaker Mike Johnson is rolling out a new legislative strategy aimed at putting the Senate on the spot over one of Republicans’ top election priorities. The Louisiana Republican announced that House leaders will tie the SAVE America Act to the annual National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a move designed to increase pressure on the upper chamber to address election integrity legislation.
Johnson’s announcement follows days of tension inside the Republican conference after a bloc of conservative lawmakers refused to support procedural votes that are necessary to move House business forward. Those members demanded stronger action to compel the Senate to consider the SAVE America Act before allowing other legislation to proceed.
The dispute temporarily brought House operations to a halt, highlighting growing frustration among conservatives who believe congressional leadership must do more to ensure election reform receives serious consideration.
