Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s newly announced bid for the U.S. Senate is already raising eyebrows—particularly after a nationally televised interview where the Texas lawmaker struggled to clearly articulate what she actually plans to do if elected.
Crockett appeared Sunday on MSNBC’s “The Weekend Primetime,” where host Catherine Rampell offered her a prime opportunity to expand on her policy priorities. The moment came just days after Crockett officially launched her Senate campaign on December 8, delivering a nearly 40-minute speech outlining what she described as her vision for Texas and the nation.
However, Rampell noted that Crockett’s campaign launch remarks were notably thin on specifics and pressed the congresswoman to provide “a couple of other examples” of policies she would pursue in the Senate. What followed was a rambling response that lasted roughly two minutes but produced only one clear policy proposal.
“I think we need to raise the minimum wage. Um, we have not done that in a national way, and so Texas is not taking it upon themselves. So the minimum wage is still $7.25,” Crockett said. “We can start to go ahead and put more money into working people’s pockets. And whether you’re a minimum wage worker or otherwise, we know that once you raise the minimum wage, everyone else’s wages go up.”
