U.S. Central Command later released footage showing the large-scale operation, revealing strikes against more than 80 military targets tied to the Iranian regime. The mission represented one of the most significant American military actions in the region since the latest conflict began.
Speaking to reporters earlier Wednesday, President Trump made it clear he no longer believed diplomacy with Tehran was possible.
“To me, I think it’s over,” Trump said. “I don’t want to deal with them anymore. They’re scum.”
The president also blasted Iran’s leadership, expressing frustration over what he described as repeated deception and continued aggression.
“They’re sick people. They’re led by sick people, and they’re vicious, violent people… As far as I’m concerned, it’s just a waste of time dealing with them. They’re liars.”
WATCH:
Just hours after Trump’s remarks, Iran answered with another military response.
According to the New York Post, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced it had carried out coordinated missile and drone strikes against American military positions in Bahrain and Kuwait. Iranian officials claimed the operation was retaliation for the U.S. strikes conducted overnight.
The Revolutionary Guards said they targeted key U.S. military facilities, including Bandar Salman in Bahrain’s Fifth Naval District and Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait. Iranian officials also claimed their forces shot down an American MQ-9 drone that allegedly attempted to interfere with the operation.
Officials in both Gulf nations quickly responded as the attacks unfolded.
Air raid sirens reportedly sounded across Bahrain and Kuwait while military officials activated air defense systems to intercept incoming threats. The Kuwaiti military confirmed its forces were responding to what it described as “hostile” missile and drone attacks.
The latest exchange represents another major setback after hopes briefly emerged that the ceasefire agreement could reduce tensions between the United States and Iran. Instead, both sides have rapidly returned to military action, raising concerns that the conflict could continue to expand across the region.
The Strait of Hormuz remains at the center of the confrontation. The narrow waterway serves as one of the world’s busiest energy corridors, and any disruption to shipping traffic carries significant implications for global oil markets and international trade.
With Iran continuing to launch attacks and the United States demonstrating its willingness to respond with overwhelming force, the prospect of a lasting diplomatic solution appears increasingly remote.
Military officials are continuing to monitor the situation as additional information becomes available. It remains unclear whether further retaliatory strikes are already being planned by either side or whether regional allies could become more deeply involved in the growing conflict.
This is a developing story, and additional updates are expected as events continue to unfold.
