Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) could face serious legal consequences if federal investigators uncover evidence that she misrepresented information during the process of becoming a U.S. citizen, according to a former immigration judge who discussed the legal hurdles surrounding the allegations.
Nathan Hansen, an attorney with 23 years of legal experience who served briefly as an immigration judge earlier this year, told Fox News Digital that the case could take a significant turn if investigators establish a direct connection between alleged misconduct and Omar’s naturalization.
The Minnesota Democrat is reportedly the subject of two separate federal investigations. One reportedly focuses on potential immigration fraud, while the other examines questions surrounding her financial disclosures, which allegedly showed a dramatic swing in her reported assets over the course of a single year.
However, Hansen emphasized that even a criminal conviction would not automatically result in the loss of Omar’s American citizenship.
