Once again, Rep. Ilhan Omar has managed to stir controversy—not by proposing solutions or offering leadership, but by publicly attacking the very nation she was elected to serve. For many Americans, this has become a familiar pattern. Nearly every high-profile statement from the Minnesota Democrat seems to carry open disdain for the United States, its institutions, and the people tasked with enforcing its laws.
In her latest remarks, Omar took direct aim at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), referring to federal law enforcement officers as an “occupying force” in Minneapolis. She went even further, accusing them of being an “unlawful paramilitary force,” language more commonly used to describe hostile foreign invaders than sworn American officers carrying out federal law.
The comments immediately sparked outrage, particularly among those who recognize the dangerous and often thankless job ICE agents perform every day. These are men and women tasked with enforcing immigration law, combating human trafficking, drug smuggling, and organized crime—often at great personal risk. To hear them described as terrorists by a sitting member of Congress is not just reckless, but deeply insulting.
