How Trump’s China Deal Sidelines Iran

President Donald Trump returned from Beijing with what he described as a major geopolitical breakthrough that could tighten the screws on Iran and reshape the balance of power in the Middle East.

During an interview with Sean Hannity, Trump revealed that Chinese leader Xi Jinping personally assured him Beijing would not provide military equipment to Iran, a stunning statement that could dramatically alter the strategic relationship between China and the Iranian regime.

Xi “said he’s not going to give military equipment. That’s a big statement. He said that today. That’s a big statement. (He) said that strongly,” Trump said.

The comments came after a series of high-level meetings in Beijing that the White House has portrayed as one of the most important diplomatic engagements of Trump’s second term. While critics have long accused China of quietly fueling Iran’s economy and military machine behind the scenes, Trump suggested the communist government may now be backing away from direct support.

If Xi follows through, it would represent a serious setback for Tehran at a time when tensions in the region remain dangerously high.
