For a well-known Hollywood star, the worst nightmare of an electric vehicle owner came true. He related his terrifying encounter with a dead battery that left him stranded on a desert highway outside of Los Angeles.
A recent unfortunate EV horror story involving renowned entertainment news host Marc Malkin made headlines at Page Six. His new car suddenly broke down on January 5th while he was returning to Los Angeles from the Palm Springs Film Festival, according to sources.

When their electric car suddenly runs out of fuel, celebrity Sean Penn saves Malkin from a difficult situation in the desert. In Cabazon, Penn provides support and direction to his publicist Mara Buxbaum and himself while they charge their own car.
“Marc looked to one side, and Sean Penn was charging his car – and he looked to his other side and saw Mara Buxbaum (Penn’s longtime publicist) charging her car.”
“All of a sudden, they saw a little flatbed tow truck with a car on it. They all forgot to charge overnight,” the source added.
Malkin contacted the car dealership for help after experiencing issues with the battery life of his electric vehicle. The dealership clarified that Malkin’s failure to stop the battery from completely draining was the root of the problem. But Malkin used some cunning to try a different charger, and Buxbaum and Penn helped him come up with a workable solution.
“Mara came up to him and asked if he needed his car pushed,” said a source. “She said, ‘You need someone to push your car?’”
Before he knew it, “Penn was back there pushing his car.”
“It was the funniest thing ever,” a source added. “Sean was a real-life hero.”

Though the three made a triumphant comeback for the pre-ceremony party circuit of the Golden Globes, they encountered difficulties in regions of the nation lacking adequate infrastructure for electric vehicle charging. In a proactive move, more than 3,000 car dealers have written an open letter to President Joe Biden pleading with him to ease regulations imposed on the sale of electric vehicles. They blame the lack of charging stations across the country for a portion of the issue.
A family of US citizens and one of the administration’s well-known energy officials clashed over charging port access, posing a personal challenge to the Biden administration. This incident happened in the midst of a national public awareness campaign for electric vehicles.
