More than 100 graduates at Stanford University disrupted Sunday’s commencement ceremony in a coordinated walkout aimed at protesting Google CEO Sundar Pichai, turning what is traditionally a celebratory academic milestone into a politically charged demonstration that echoed across Stanford Stadium.
The disruption unfolded during one of the most high-profile graduation events of the year, drawing immediate attention both inside the stadium and across social media platforms where videos of the scene quickly spread.
Footage circulating online showed dozens of graduates standing up in unison and exiting their seats while chanting loudly, “Free, free Palestine.” The chant rang through the stadium as more students joined the walkout, creating a visible split in the audience between those participating in the protest and those remaining seated for the ceremony.
As the protest escalated, other attendees responded with vocal backlash. Some students and guests could be heard booing, while others shouted “shame on you” toward the departing group and during Pichai’s address to the graduating class.
