Texas Democrat James Talarico is facing another round of unwanted attention after old remarks about capitalism resurfaced — and President Donald Trump wasted little time turning the controversy into political ammunition.
Talarico, who is running for U.S. Senate against Republican Ken Paxton, has spent much of the campaign attempting to present himself as a Democrat capable of appealing beyond his party’s traditional base.
But comments he made during a 2020 virtual event with Sierra Club activists are now threatening that image.
