Colombian President Gustavo Petro has sparked an international firestorm after threatening to “take out” former President Donald Trump during a Univision interview Monday — just one day after Trump accused Petro of being an “illegal drug leader.” The shocking remark, captured on camera, has pushed already tense relations between Colombia and the United States to a dangerous new low.

Petro declared, “Humanity has a first offramp, and it is to change Trump in various ways. The easiest way may be through Trump himself—the easiest. If not, take out Trump.” He even punctuated the statement by snapping his fingers for emphasis.

Both X (formerly Twitter) and Google Translate interpreted Petro’s Spanish phrase “saca la Trump” as “take out Trump,” though some outlets offered softer translations like “get rid of Trump.” But regardless of semantics, the meaning was unmistakably hostile. Coronell, clearly unsettled, later admitted, “I’m leaving more worried than when I arrived.”
