The Trump administration is taking border enforcement to the next level—and this time, it’s FEMA leading the charge.
In a stunning pivot from natural disaster relief, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has announced a new program that will hand out over $608 million to states willing to expand their capacity to detain illegal immigrants.
The “Detention Support Grant Program” is part of a broader crackdown on illegal immigration. It’s designed to assist states and local governments that want to house migrants in state-run facilities while they await transfer to federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody.
According to FEMA’s official documentation, “Recipients and subrecipients may use grant funds for the costs of sheltering aliens in a detained environment.” The grant window closes on August 8, and conservative states are already lining up.
