The show featured David Hasselhoff as head lifeguard Mitch Buchanan, alongside a stunning ensemble of “Baywatch babes,” including Pamela Anderson, Yasmine Bleeth, and Gina Lee Nolin. Its iconic imagery of red swimsuits and sandy beaches cemented its place in pop culture history.
While Baywatch may have painted a picture of sunny California paradise, Eggert disclosed that filming wasn’t always as idyllic as it appeared. Winter months brought harsh conditions, with actors battling the chilly Pacific Ocean temperatures.
“The cold days you have — the bad always outweighs the good,” Eggert admitted. “You know, fighting hypothermia. Like just trying to find a dry towel anywhere. Those were really hard moments.”
Eggert explained that these physical challenges were a constant struggle, highlighting the less glamorous side of creating a show beloved by millions.
Despite Baywatch’s immense popularity, Eggert decided to leave the show after four seasons. She revealed that stepping away was a necessary choice for her mental health and personal growth after spending most of her life in the spotlight.
“I needed to grow up and kind of work on myself,” Eggert shared. “At the time, for my own happiness, I just needed to take some downtime.
Reflecting on the nature of fame, Eggert noted how much has changed since her Baywatch days. With the rise of social media, the concept of celebrity has broadened significantly.
“But now I think the word ‘celebrity’ is used much more loosely now,” Eggert observed. “It encompasses so much more, should I say.”
This shift, she believes, has allowed more people to achieve recognition without the need for blockbuster TV roles or movie appearances.
Eggert also acknowledged the current wave of 1990s nostalgia, which has brought renewed attention to Baywatch and its stars. Fans are embracing the era with enthusiasm, breathing new life into the show’s legacy.

“And celebrity has its funny things, because the ’90s is now nostalgic again,” Eggert said. “So, it’s actually fun, because people are excited to think about ’90s actors and actresses and people that they watched.”
For Eggert, this resurgence has been a welcome surprise. “It’s a fun time right now because the 90s are cool again, so it’s good for me,” she concluded.
While the challenges of filming Baywatch may have been grueling, the show’s enduring popularity proves its impact on pop culture. For Eggert, revisiting the past has been both reflective and rewarding, as the world continues to celebrate the magic of the ’90s.
