Ex-Trump Officials UNITE to Support Potential New Presidential Candidate

Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, is receiving support from prominent members of the Trump administration for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

Meet “The Eight-Year Alliance,” a group of more than 100 people looking for a presidential candidate dedicated to holding office for two full terms. Fox News covers this distinctive trend.

The organization stated that it want to prevent former President Donald Trump from “immediately becoming a lame-duck president.”

DeSantis is “a proven winner,” a source close to the organization told Fox News, adding he is a boss who “does what he says.”

Fox News reports on a new group that includes former acting associate attorney general Jesse Panuccio, former special assistant to the secretary of defense Will Bushman, former labor secretary’s counselor and White House liaison Pedro Allende, former senior counsel and senior advisor to the secretary of commerce James Uthmeier, and former principal deputy general counsel at the department of commerce Davi. Even though their roster isn’t full, this diverse team of seasoned experts is creating headlines.

When Trump wanted to “shake things up,” the sources told Fox News that they were “proud” to serve alongside him, but they are now focused on DeSantis.

Republicans have a history of rejecting Trump, with Senator Romney spearheading a “never Trump” push throughout his 2016 presidential campaign. According to Forbes, some Republicans who supported Trump embraced President Biden even in the 2020 election.

In a speech to the National Religious Broadcasters Convention, DeSantis emphasizes the possible effects of a two-term president on the Supreme Court, according to The Washington Post.

“I think if you look over the next two presidential terms, there is a good chance that you could be called upon to seek replacements for Justice Clarence Thomas and Justice Samuel Alito and the issue with that is, you can’t really do better than those two,” he said.

He continued by criticizing Chief Justice John Roberts: “If you replace a Clarence Thomas with somebody like a Roberts or somebody like that, then you’re going to actually see the court move to the left, and you can’t do that.”

DeSantis raises the possibility that two Obama-appointed liberal justices, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, may step down during the next two years.

“So it is possible that in those eight years, we have the opportunity to fortify justices … Alito and Thomas as well as actually make improvements with those others, and if you were able to do that, you would have a 7-2 conservative majority on the supreme court that would last a quarter-century,” he said.

According to Reuters, the DeSantis campaign is challenged by the GOP’s internal divisions.

“You can’t court MAGA while courting the rest of the party. That’s a difficult decision he is going to have to make,” Republican expert Chris Stirewalt from the American Enterprise Institute suggested as much.

DeSantis is competing in a crowded field against other opponents, including well-known people like Nikki Haley and Tim Scott. Sarah Isgur, a seasoned campaigner, suggests that DeSantis concentrate on wooing Trump voters given the abundance of alternatives.

“He can’t win the nomination with only non-Trump votes. He has to peel voters away from Trump,” she said.

Only 30-35 percent of Republicans, according to Republican pollster Whit Ayres, are firmly in support of Trump, while only 10 percent are equally adamantly opposed to him. He refers to the vast majority of Republicans as “maybe-Trumpers.”

“It looks to me like DeSantis is going after the always-Trumpers rather than the maybe-Trumpers,” Ayres said.

Instead, he advised DeSantis to make an effort to “voters looking for an alternative to Trump that he’s the right guy.”
