Elon Musk responded to a rumor that was circulated by former Democratic presidential candidate Ralph Nader by emphatically denouncing it in a tweet.
Nader criticized Musk, calling him a “royal benefactor” of tax dollars who received a lavish public giveaway to start Tesla.
“Musk (@elonmusk) started Tesla with a huge U.S. government welfare grant. He has taken taxpayers to the cleaners for his factories and for Starlink. He is a gigantic corporate welfare king masquerading as a capitalist businessman,” Nader said.

Elon Musk admitted, in response to criticism from Ralph Nader, that almost all of the money for Tesla came from his personal PayPal payments.
“Ralph Nader, you are lying – shame on you! I personally provided almost all Tesla funding, based on my proceeds from PayPal, from Series A in 2004 until Series C in 2007. In late 2008, I gave Tesla the last money I had. It was that or the company would have died. We closed that funding round at 6pm on Christmas Eve. If we had not closed that round, Tesla would have gone bankrupt 2 days after Christmas. I gave my last money thinking Tesla would probably still die, not thinking that it would be lucrative,” he said.
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, is taking a stance against the media and denouncing people, in his opinion, who are fabricating stories about him. He especially referred to articles that said he was boosting his own tweets on Twitter, an accusation Musk vehemently refutes. This most recent endeavor is another another step in Tesla’s quest to challenge conventional media and information sources while prioritizing accuracy over sensationalism.
“Several major media sources incorrectly reported that my Tweets were boosted above normal levels earlier this week,” the CEO said on Friday. “A review of my Tweet likes & views over the past 6 months, especially as a ratio of followers, shows this to be false.”
“We did have a bug that briefly caused replies to have the same prominence as primary Tweets, but that has now been fixed,” he said.
“For example, despite having ~40M fewer followers back then, I have yet to come anywhere close to this gem,” He joked that he was going to buy Coca-Cola in a tweet that included a picture of the stats.
He answered a question from a curious Twitter follower about a Published story that outlined his usage of a unique approach that ensures optimum visibility for each tweet.
“The ‘source’ of the bogus Platformer article is a disgruntled employee who had been on paid time off for months, had already accepted a job at Google and felt the need to poison the well on the way out. Twitter will be taking legal action against him,” he said.
Following months of rumors, Musk drove his followers into a frenzy when he humorously announced the new CEO of Twitter: a cute dog! Despite user requests for him to leave the social media platform, it appears that Musk is still making sure that everyone is aware of who actually controls things with comedy (and doggo-style!).
“The new CEO of Twitter is amazing,” he said, adding in another tweet, “So much better than that other guy.”
Elon Musk famously asked his millions of followers on Twitter in December whether or not it was time for him to stand down as CEO, and the result was a flurry of comments.
“Should I step down as head of Twitter?” Musk asked in the now-completed survey. “I will abide by the results of this poll.” More than 17.5 million votes had been cast as of Monday morning, with 57.5 percent of respondents favoring his resignation as CEO and 42.5 percent favoring his retention.
Separately, Musk tweeted, “The question is not finding a CEO, the question is finding a CEO who can keep Twitter alive.”
Elon Musk had an epiphany after the discussion reached a turning point and realized that other users had made a major contribution to the survey results in addition to his own.
“Hey @elonmusk, it’s unwise to run a poll like this when you are now deep state enemy #1,” said Kim Dotcom on Twitter. “They have the biggest bot army on Twitter. They have 100k ‘analysts’ with 30-40 accounts all voting against you. Let’s clean up and then run this poll again. The majority has faith in you.
“I’m hoping that Elon did this poll as a honeypot to catch all the deep state bots,” he added. “The dataset for this poll will contain most of them. Some good data-mining and he could kill them all in one go.”
“Interesting,” Musk responded.
One user’s proposal to limit voting privileges to verified Twitter accounts with the blue checkmark sparked discussion and was supported by users who paid for membership.
“Blue subscribers should be the only ones that can vote in policy related polls. We actually have skin in the game,” Unfiltered Boss said on Twitter.
Musk replied, “Good point. Twitter will make that change.”
The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX found himself in hot water over a new proposed rule that would restrict users’ ability to share links to their other social media accounts on the popular site.
“Specifically, we will remove accounts created solely for the purpose of promoting other social platforms and content that contains links or usernames for the following platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr and Post,” one of the now-deleted tweets said.
