Dolly’s Team Confirms Cause of Death

Her passing came as a shock to fans around the world, particularly because Parton had continued discussing new projects and her desire to keep working despite recent health struggles.

“Our beloved Dolly Parton spent her life and career bringing joy, laughter, hope and integrity into everything she touched. Her unmatched generosity reached the lives of countless people whom she would never meet, yet she was always there to offer a helping hand,” the statement from her representatives read.

“Whether it be the hundreds of millions of books donated through her invaluable Imagination Library or funding research that helped create a lifesaving vaccine used around the world, Dolly’s unconditional love for all people was the guiding force for her lasting impact. After bravely facing a brief battle with cancer, Dolly departed her Earthly life today at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center surrounded by loved ones.”

The announcement was initially delivered through a prerecorded video by Parton’s nephew, Bryan Seaver, who had served as her head of security for more than two decades.

“This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality,” he said. “As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it until now.

“It is an honor, an honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness. But sadness lies with us, not with Dolly. Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents and countless others who have watched her and longed to meet her in the heavens.”

Parton had faced health concerns in recent months, but she had remained publicly determined to continue creating and pursuing new ventures. Just days before her death, she discussed upcoming projects and the ambitions she still hoped to fulfill.

“I still have so many things I want to achieve,” she told People, “so I’m gonna keep on working as long as I can to see everything come to life.”

Her determination was characteristic of a woman who spent decades refusing to be confined by expectations.

Born into poverty in rural Tennessee, Parton rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most successful entertainers in American history. Her journey began long before she became an international superstar. Early success as a songwriter helped establish her in Nashville, while songs such as “Coat of Many Colors,” “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You” eventually turned her into a country music institution.

Her accomplishments were staggering. Parton earned 25 No. 1 country singles in the United States, while her music crossed genre and generational lines. She also built a major career in film, winning praise for roles in productions including “9 to 5” and “Steel Magnolias.”

But her legacy was never limited to records, awards or box-office success.

Through her Imagination Library, Parton helped place hundreds of millions of books into the hands of children. She also supported medical research, including funding connected to the development of a COVID-19 vaccine. Her charitable work became just as central to her public identity as her music.

The reaction to her death has reflected the extraordinary reach of her life. Tributes have poured in from musicians, actors, public figures and ordinary fans who viewed Parton as more than an entertainer.

“I swear I believed Mrs Dolly was immortal. Some people are so extraordinary, their existence feels almost impossible. Dolly was one of those people,” Khloe Kardashian wrote in response to the video. “A once-in-a-lifetime soul. A woman whose light, heart, talent and humanity changed this world forever.”

Perhaps no one could have summarized Dolly Parton’s personality better than Dolly Parton herself.

When asked how she hoped to be remembered a century from now, the country music legend reportedly had a characteristically humorous answer.

“I want ’em to say, ‘God, don’t she look good for her age!’” Parton exclaimed.

Dolly Parton is gone, but the songs, the laughter, the generosity and the larger-than-life personality that made her an American icon will not soon be forgotten.
