Just months after shaking up Washington with his no-nonsense approach to government waste, Elon Musk has had enough. The tech titan, who was hand-picked by President Donald Trump to lead the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has officially stepped away from his government role—and he isn’t going quietly.
In a surprise move, Musk announced his departure from government work after serving as a Special Government Employee under the Trump administration. His statement, posted to X (formerly Twitter), confirmed the decision that has left many in the MAGA base stunned.
“As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending,” Musk wrote. “The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.”
While some saw this as a graceful exit, Musk didn’t stop there. He made it clear that he’s fed up with business as usual in Washington.
