Disney Data Breach: Millions Affected!

The Walt Disney Company is in hot water after being hit with a major class action lawsuit following a colossal data breach that took place in July. More than 1.1 terabytes of customer data were stolen in the cyberattack, leaving thousands of Disney customers and former employees vulnerable. The fallout has been immense, with customers accusing the entertainment giant of failing to protect their personal information and of keeping them in the dark about the extent of the breach.

The lawsuit, filed on October 3 in Los Angeles Superior Court by Scott Margel, targets both Disney and Disney California Adventure, alleging negligence and breach of duty for not adequately safeguarding sensitive data. Margel, along with thousands of other plaintiffs, claims that Disney bears the responsibility for the hackers gaining access to highly sensitive personal information, which includes passport numbers, addresses, and even internal company communications.

According to reports, the Russian hacktivist group known as “Nullbulge” orchestrated the breach by infiltrating Disney’s internal Slack system, an employee communications network. Through this backdoor, the hackers reportedly gained access to customer databases, as well as confidential information tied to Disney’s Cruise Line. The Cruise Line data reportedly includes sensitive details belonging to crew members, like passport numbers, putting employees in an extremely vulnerable position.
