In a stunning political shake-up, the Ohio Conference of Teamsters has thrown its full support behind Vivek Ramaswamy’s bid for governor. The decision marks a major break from the union’s long history of backing Democrats in statewide races — and it’s sending shockwaves through Ohio’s political world.
Ramaswamy, a biotech entrepreneur and former GOP presidential contender, has been steadily gaining momentum with organized labor in recent months. His campaign has already picked up multiple endorsements from trade unions across the state, reflecting a growing shift among working-class voters toward Republican candidates.
Among the labor groups now backing Ramaswamy are the Ohio State Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters, the Central Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters, the Cleveland Building & Construction Trades Council, and the Northwest Ohio Building & Construction Trades Council.
