A shocking act of vandalism has resulted in the destruction of what is believed to be hundreds of mail-in ballots, only a week before the crucial Election Day. The incident has left many in a swing state wondering if those affected voters will be identified and given the opportunity to re-cast their ballots in time.
The fire took place in the early hours of Monday morning at the Fisher’s Landing Transit Center in Vancouver, Washington. Local news outlet KATU reported that authorities suspect a vandal deliberately set fire to a drop box containing hundreds of ballots. Footage captured by the news station shows thick smoke billowing from the metal drop box, located near Southeast 162nd Avenue, shortly after 6 a.m. Firefighters at the scene were seen removing charred ballots from the drop box, throwing them onto the ground where they continued to smolder.
