CBP Agent Maimed as Minneapolis Erupts

>> Continued From the Previous Page <<

The shooting remains under active investigation by the Department of Homeland Security.

What followed next turned the situation into full-scale disorder.

Almost immediately, large groups of protesters and masked agitators poured into the area. Witnesses reported Antifa militants among the crowd as fires were lit and makeshift barricades went up. Federal agents and Minneapolis police officers were overwhelmed and forced to pull back as the mob took control of the streets.

It was during this unrest that the shocking attack on a federal agent occurred.

According to DHS officials, a Homeland Security Investigations officer was violently assaulted by a rioter while conducting operations aimed at dismantling criminal organizations operating in the city, including human trafficking and drug smuggling networks.

Eyewitnesses say the suspect lunged at the officer during the confrontation and bit down on his finger with extreme force, severing it completely.

The injured agent was rushed to a local hospital, where doctors attempted emergency treatment and explored the possibility of reattaching the severed digit. Officials later confirmed the damage was permanent.

“In Minneapolis, these rioters attacked our law enforcement officer and one of them bit off our HSI officer’s finger,” DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin confirmed in an X post. “He will lose the finger.”

The post was accompanied by a graphic image showing the severed finger, underscoring the severity of the attack.

Federal authorities moved swiftly. At least two individuals were taken into custody in connection with the violence. Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed that the primary suspect responsible for the biting attack has been arrested and is now facing serious federal charges.

“The suspect who allegedly bit the finger off of an HSI agent in Minnesota today has been arrested and is in custody. I have directed my federal prosecutors to file charges for this heinous assault on our brave law enforcement officer,” Bondi said.

While early reports focused on a single attacker, DHS later released images of multiple suspects believed to be involved in related acts of violence during the protest. Officials say investigations are ongoing to determine whether additional individuals aided or encouraged the assault.

As unrest continued, the federal government moved to reinforce its presence.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem had already visited Minnesota earlier this month as part of Operation Metro Surge, a massive immigration enforcement initiative. Nearly 2,000 additional federal agents, including ICE and Border Patrol personnel, have been deployed to the region.

The administration has described the operation as the largest targeted immigration enforcement effort in U.S. history, resulting in thousands of arrests tied to criminal activity.

By Saturday evening, units from the Minnesota National Guard were deployed to protect the Whipple federal building. Additional troops were positioned near the site of the shooting as authorities worked to restore order.

President Donald Trump has made clear that all options remain on the table. The administration has not ruled out invoking the Insurrection Act if the violence continues, a move that would expand federal authority to quell unrest.

For many Americans, the incident has become another stark example of how anti-law enforcement extremism is no longer rhetorical but violently physical. A federal agent permanently disfigured while enforcing the law has become a chilling symbol of the growing disorder gripping major cities.

And in Minneapolis, the question remains how much more chaos will be tolerated before decisive action is taken.
