Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s administration has intensified its anti-gun policies with the announcement of a sweeping ban on 324 additional firearms. The decision, revealed on Thursday, extends the government’s contentious firearm restrictions, which have already outlawed over 2,000 models since 2015. While the move is presented as an effort to reduce gun violence, critics argue it disproportionately impacts law-abiding citizens and sports enthusiasts.
The new ban, announced by Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc, imposes strict prohibitions on the sale, use, and importation of the listed firearms. Exceptions for transport or transfer are highly restricted. LeBlanc justified the decision, stating it aligns with the government’s mission to prevent “gun violence.”

“Today, the government is adding a further 324 makes and models of assault-style firearms to the list of prohibited firearms in Canada. This prohibition takes effect immediately,” LeBlanc said during the announcement.
