“Today, I am keeping my promise to the American people and making all the January 6th tapes available to ALL Americans.”
This was disclosed by Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., on Thursday during an interview with “The Wilkow Majority” on Sirius XM.
Gaetz made the videos available to the public by announcing their release on a special website.
‘“The way that the Jan. 6 tapes will be released will be through a website where any member of the public can go and observe the videos that are being released,” Gaetz said.
“My expectation is they’re going to be released in tranches and that the first tranche of the Johnson tapes to be released will be in days, not weeks,” he added.
The public can now view the first footage from January 6 on the website that the Committee on House Administration (CHA) recently unveiled.
Speaker Johnson made a declaration that read as follows:
In my role as Speaker, I’m dedicated to maintaining openness and the truth in our democracy. In keeping with this, on January 6, 2021, I promised to provide the American people with access to the 44,000 hours of video footage recorded by Capitol Hill security. We are acting immediately today, putting videos on a website that is open to the public and working to quickly add over 40,000 hours of footage. To guarantee that there is no censorship and that all citizens can watch the videos, we have also established a public viewing room.
Rather than depending only on the opinions of a small number of government officials, this decisive action gives millions of Americans, criminal defendants, public interest organizations, and the media direct access to the truth of what happened.
I commend Chairman Loudermilk and his staff for their diligent work in processing and uploading the large volume of video to the public website of the committee. In order to shield private citizens from possible reprisals, the faces of those on the unreleased tapes will be blurred. Additionally, about 5% of the videos will be separated because they might include sensitive security information about the architecture of the building.
The videos are accessible here.
“Follow the link below to view the January 6th tapes for yourself. To restore America’s trust and faith in their Government we must have transparency. This is another step towards keeping the promises I made when I was elected to be your Speaker. This website will be updated continuously with thousands of hours of footage,” Johnson wrote.
