“And I’ll break a little news for you,” Gaetz revealed on the podcast Human Events Daily. “I had a senior official from the Department of Homeland Security in my office before the second assassination attempt, saying that what he has assessed is that there are five known assassination teams in the United States, three inspired by other governments, two that are here that are known domestic assassination teams. And with that, this individual was coming to me concerned that the force protection around President Trump was not sufficient for what it needed to be.”

Gaetz expressed concern about the lack of coordination between the Secret Service and local law enforcement, arguing that more robust measures should be in place to protect Trump. He stressed that dignitary protection should meet a higher standard, particularly for high-profile figures like Trump who face elevated threats. “The dignitary protection level is like the bare minimum that we have to do to keep our presidents and our presidential candidates safe while they’re on the trail,” Gaetz explained.
The congressman also questioned why certain protective assets had been reassigned from Trump’s security detail to other officials, such as First Lady Jill Biden and former National Security Advisor John Bolton, despite the heightened threat against Trump. Gaetz pointed out that these reallocations occurred at a time when Trump was in significant danger, raising serious questions about the decision-making process within federal agencies.
“We don’t want anything bad to happen to Jill Biden,” Gaetz acknowledged, “but at the same time, the threat envelope for her was substantially different than the threat envelope around President Trump. It would not have necessitated pulling assets away from the Trump detail.” The Florida representative continued to voice his alarm, particularly regarding the revelation that three of the five assassination teams have been linked to foreign governments, allegedly tied to nations such as Iran, Ukraine, and Pakistan.

Gaetz also discussed the broader national security implications, particularly how weak border policies might have contributed to this dangerous situation. He claimed that some of the foreign-linked teams were able to enter the U.S. due to insufficient border security measures. “One reason is because when they entered the country, there was insufficient scrutiny to stop them from doing so,” Gaetz stated during an appearance on Breitbart Sirius XM. He connected the open-border policies with the increasing threat level, suggesting that current immigration and border enforcement strategies have made it easier for bad actors to enter the U.S. undetected.
“In the world in which we live—with an open border, with insufficient resources to stop people from coming here from other places to do harm—this is the threat level we have to confront. We can’t be Pollyanna about it; we’ve got to be vigorous,” Gaetz warned.
With two assassination attempts in a span of just two months, the revelations from Gaetz have cast a chilling shadow over Trump’s safety moving forward. The increasing threats, paired with the knowledge of active assassination teams, have raised serious questions about the former president’s security and the measures needed to ensure his protection in the future.
As investigations into the recent assassination attempts continue, the broader conversation around national security, border enforcement, and political violence intensifies.
