Federal authorities stunned Washington this week after announcing the arrest of 30 year old Florida resident Brian Cole Jr, the man investigators now say is responsible for planting the explosive devices discovered outside the RNC and DNC headquarters on January 5th 2021. The case had been cold for nearly half a decade under Biden era leadership, but the newly rebuilt FBI under President Trump says it cracked the mystery by simply doing the work past officials refused to finish.
Cole now faces serious federal charges including transporting an explosive device and attempted malicious destruction with explosive materials. The swift action from investigators marks the most significant development in the politically explosive case since the bombs were first discovered during the height of the 2021 chaos.
During a Thursday news briefing, officials emphasized that this breakthrough did not come from new witnesses or surprise tips. It came from revisiting evidence that had been gathering dust.
Bondi told reporters that investigators succeeded by “sifting through evidence that had been sitting at the FBI,” making clear the suspect was not identified through fresh leads. She added “This investigation is ongoing” and warned that “there could be more charges to come.”
