Breaking: $60B to Ukraine, Just $20B for U.S. Border in New Bill!

Senate leaders introduced a much-awaited border security package on Sunday, one that involves a large portion of foreign aid.

The talks are being led by Senators Chris Murphy (D-CT), Krysten Sinema (I-AZ), and James Lankford (R-OK) following months of conversations with the Biden administration. Talks will focus on foreign policy obligations and the issue at the southern border of the United States.

According to Senate Appropriations Committee Chair Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), the 370-page agreement is the result of weeks of serious talks that sought to strike a balance between urgent needs for foreign aid and home priorities.

“As Ukraine runs low on ammunition to fend off Putin’s brutal invasion, it is imperative we finally extend our support,” Murray stated in a release.

“We must also live up to our commitments to our allies around the globe and quickly get more aid to innocent civilians caught in conflict, including in Gaza, where the humanitarian crisis is especially dire. I never believed we should link policy demands to emergency aid for our allies, but Republicans insisted—so Democrats negotiated in good faith over many weeks and now there is a bipartisan deal on border policy legislation. Ukraine’s fate and so much more hangs in the balance—it’s time for Congress to act.”

In reaction to Russia’s aggressive military measures, Ukraine receives an astounding $60.06 billion from the comprehensive $118.28 billion national security supplementary package.

On the other hand, $20.23 billion is allocated for border security initiatives in the United States. In light of the ongoing difficulties with internal border security, this discrepancy in financial distribution has drawn attention and prompted discussion about the Senate’s objectives.

The pressing problems at the southern border of the United States are subordinated to the significant financial help going to Ukraine. The border is in crisis mode due to an increase in unauthorized crossings, a spike in fentanyl trafficking, and ongoing operational difficulties for law enforcement.

Even with its considerable allocation of $20.23 billion for border security, the situation remains unresolved, particularly in comparison to the amount set aside for overseas aid.

The US has committed more over $75 billion in aid since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, of which $46.3 billion is specifically for security support.

Prioritizing foreign security is compromised by the plan, which allots $14.1 billion for security assistance to Israel and further billions for humanitarian relief in areas of conflict like Gaza and the West Bank.

ALERT! Major Water Restrictions In Effect!

Amidst a continuing battle over border security, House Speaker Mike Johnson intends to propose a measure for $17.6 billion in emergency aid to Israel, without equivalent expenditure cutbacks.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer vetoed the first stand-alone Israel assistance plan, which included cutbacks to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), due to significant Democratic opposition. The IRS cutbacks are not included in the impending Israel funding package.

Murray claims that the following are included in the $118.28 billion national security supplementary package:

  • $60.06 billion to support Ukraine as it fights back against Putin’s bloody invasion and protects its people and sovereignty.
  • $14.1 billion in security assistance for Israel.
  • $2.44 billion to support operations in the U.S. Central Command and address combat expenditures related to conflict in the Red Sea.
  • $10 billion in humanitarian assistance to provide food, water, shelter, medical care, and other essential services to civilians in Gaza and the West Bank, Ukraine, and other populations caught in conflict zones across the globe.
  • $4.83 billion to support key regional partners in the Indo-Pacific and deter aggression by the Chinese government.
  • $2.33 billion to continue support for Ukrainians displaced by Putin’s war of aggression and other refugees fleeing persecution.
  • The bipartisan border policy changes negotiated by Senators Chris Murphy (D-CT), Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ), and James Lankford (R-OK).
  • $20.23 billion to address existing operational needs and expand capabilities at our nation’s borders, resource the new border policies included in the package, and help stop the flow of fentanyl and other narcotics.
  • The Fentanyl Eradication and Narcotics Deterrence (FEND) Off Fentanyl Act.
  • $400 million for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program to help nonprofits and places of worship make security enhancements.

International help is important, but it shouldn’t take precedence over the need to safeguard the country’s borders and shield its residents from the negative effects of unchecked immigration and drug trafficking, according to proponents of increased border security.

U.S. intelligence authorities have warned of a growing threat from the terrorist organization Hezbollah in Lebanon, as previously reported by The Gateway Pundit. Attacks against US interests in the Middle East or perhaps domestically are one of the risks mentioned in the warning.

In October, FBI Director Chris Wray delivered a stark warning about the rise of violent extremism, both domestically and internationally, at a speech to the International Association of Chiefs of Police convention in San Diego, California.

Following the attacks in Israel, Wray said there has been a noticeable increase in recorded threats and advised the public to be on the lookout for “lone actors.”

The Daily Caller News Foundation was able to receive an official document dated October 20, which discloses that the CBP San Diego field office alerted its officers about the possibility of suspected Jihadists trying to enter the country through the southern border. According to the document, previous terrorist strikes on Israel could have served as inspiration for organizations like Hamas, Hezbollah, and other jihadists to apply for visas to enter the country.

“San Diego Field Office Intelligence Unit assesses that individuals inspired by, or reacting to the current Israel-Hamas conflict may attempt travel to or from the area of hostilities in the Middle East via circuitous transit across the Southwest border,” the memo reads.

“Foreign fighters motivated by ideology or mercenary soldiers of fortune may attempt to obfuscate travel to or from the US to or from countries in the Middle East through Mexico,” the memo adds.
