The leadership shake-up at Harley-Davidson is drawing renewed scrutiny after the company’s newly installed executive team came under fire for their past involvement in progressive corporate initiatives—raising questions about whether the brand’s promised cultural reset ever truly happened.
The controversy centers on the company’s decision to appoint Artie Starrs as President and CEO in October 2025, following Harley-Davidson’s widely publicized pledge in 2024 to scale back diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs and reconnect with its traditional rider base.
That pledge, however, is now facing accusations of being more symbolic than substantive.
A Promised Shift Under Question
Harley-Davidson had previously told customers it was stepping away from DEI initiatives after months of mounting pressure from riders and conservative activists. But critics now argue the company’s latest leadership appointments tell a very different story.
Starrs, who took over in late 2025, previously held leadership roles at Topgolf and Pizza Hut—two organizations that, according to critics, embraced highly visible social and cultural programming during his tenure.
