Kari Lake, the Arizona senator running against incumbent Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ), receives a big support.
Following Lake’s shocking disclosure of secret recordings in which former Arizona GOP Chairman Jeff DeWit was heard advising the firebrand conservative to withdraw from the race and “wait a few years” at the behest of East Coast donors who were undecided about her chances of winning in November, U.S. Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) announced his support for Lake on Monday. Sen. Hagerty stated in a statement that Lake is the right candidate to secure another win that would aid Republicans in taking back the Senate in 2025.
“I’m honored to endorse my friend Kari Lake to be Arizona’s next U.S. Senator. Kari is a strong, principled conservative, who knows and loves the people of Arizona and will make them proud as their elected representative. Kari is fearless, she doesn’t back down, and she will fight tirelessly to secure our border and make our country safe and prosperous. The stakes could not be higher and it is now more important than ever that we retake the Republican majority and get our country back on the right track for all working American families and citizens,” said Hagerty.

“I am thrilled to have the endorsement of a conservative force in the Senate, my friend Bill Hagerty. He has been a strong voice for securing our border and advocating for America First policies. I look forward to working with him to put America back on track,” In approving Hagerty’s recommendation, Lake wrote.
In the 2020 Republican primary and general election, Hagerty—a devoted conservative and former U.S. Ambassador to Japan under President Trump—winned handily. Strong financing and endorsements from Trump and other well-known conservatives, such as Kimberly Guilfoyle and former Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam, who opted not to run, contributed to his win.
Sen. Hagerty’s positions were inconsistent, while Lake’s support for President Trump remained unwavering in the face of controversy surrounding the Capitol breach on January 6, 2021. He first promised not to confirm the results of the Electoral College that day, but after the breach, he changed his mind. Hagerty’s stances caused some worry in the Trump administration, even though she opposed the creation of an independent commission and the Democratic-led select committee chaired by Liz Cheney, both of which were investigated in later years.

With the support of Senators Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) and Tom Cotton (R-AR), Lake is expected to defeat less well-known and less financially supported opponents in the Republican primary. Sen. Sinema, who left the Democratic Party last year, would face off against Lake and a Democratic opponent in the general election. She has not yet announced her run for reelection. Her Democratic opponent is expected to be Representative Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), whom Lake has publicly pledged to defeat because of his support for open borders under President Joe Biden.
