Boston Mayor Michelle Wu just crossed a line that most Americans never thought an elected leader would even approach. Her recent comments, delivered at a press conference meant to address law enforcement practices, ignited a firestorm of criticism and outrage from all sides of the political aisle — and rightfully so.
Wu, who has already built a reputation for controversial statements, shocked both critics and supporters when she compared Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to neo-Nazis. When asked about federal agents wearing face coverings during immigration operations, Wu took the conversation in a direction few expected.
“I don’t know of any police department that routinely wears masks,” she said. “We know that there are other groups that routinely wear masks. NSC-131 routinely wears masks.”
The reference sent a chill through the room.
