Late Saturday, the Texas House redistricting committee pushed through a new map on a 12-6 party-line vote, paving the way for a floor showdown as early as Tuesday. If passed, the new map could eliminate three Democrat-leaning districts and tilt two more decisively red — a seismic shift in one of the most hotly contested political arenas in America.
Governor Greg Abbott had signaled this fight was coming, making redistricting a top item in the legislature’s special session.
