A seemingly routine U.S. Senate confirmation hearing for attorney general nominee Pam Bondi took an unexpected turn when the former Florida attorney general pushed back against top Democrat Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL). The Senate Minority Whip’s pointed questioning about the 2020 election and former President Donald Trump’s controversial call to Georgia officials stirred a tense exchange, with Bondi refusing to be cornered.
Durbin, the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, tried to press Bondi on Trump’s appeal to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to “find” additional votes during the contentious 2020 election.
