Wang described Walz as a charming figure who made a strong impression on her. “Tim was very handsome. I loved his eyes and his big mouth. We talked afterwards and he was very complimentary about my English,” Wang continued. She recalled their conversations, noting that her colleagues couldn’t speak fluent English, but Walz made her feel as if she was back in America when they spoke. Wang admitted that, despite their passionate affair, their public interactions were minimal due to the strict social norms in China at the time.
Their relationship, while intense, was also marked by cultural barriers. Wang described how Walz’s attempts at public affection were at odds with the discretion required by their situation. One particular instance, she noted, was when Walz awkwardly tried to feed her a pear during a public outing—an act that drew unwanted attention and tension. Despite these challenges, the two maintained a secret romance.
“But we talked for hours and hours, we stayed in bed, we had sex. He continued to buy me gifts. I could never stay overnight because of the social conventions. It was very repressive. Couples walked around the city like robots. My father would have been very, very angry and sad if he had found out,” Wang revealed.

When Walz returned to the U.S., he promised Wang that they would reunite, leading her to quit her job in anticipation of moving to America. However, their relationship began to unravel. Wang recounted a tense moment during their travels on an overnight train, where Walz insisted she share his cabin. When a conductor interrupted them with a flashlight, Walz, being a Westerner, managed to diffuse the situation. Yet, despite these intimate moments, Walz questioned Wang’s intentions, accusing her of being more interested in a U.S. passport than in marrying him.

“This was very offensive. I said to him that it is both or nothing,” Wang stated. “I wasn’t giving up my life and my position to move to Nebraska, a cold place in the middle of nowhere that most Chinese people had never heard of. I was giving it up to be with Tim, to get married and start a family. Knowing now that he wasn’t going to marry me made me feel cheap and common, as if I was being treated like a prostitute.”
Wang’s heartbreak culminated in a dramatic moment where she contemplated ending her life on a clifftop, devastated by Walz’s refusal to commit. She ultimately decided to leave Walz and returned to care for her mother after surgery. “I felt dead inside. I wasn’t going to force a person to love me. I never saw Tim again,” Wang shared.

Wang also accused Walz of dishonesty, claiming he had lied about key events, including the Tiananmen Square massacre. “Tim lied about Tiananmen Square and he’s lied about other things,” she said. Walz eventually lost contact with Wang, who later moved to Europe to work as a teacher and translator. Although the two briefly reconnected in 2009, Wang decided to speak out now, asserting that Walz’s behavior could have jeopardized her career and reputation.
“This is a very crucial moment in history and a man like this does not appear to have the character and integrity to do one of the most important jobs in the world,” Wang concluded.
As this story unfolds, it remains to be seen how the revelation will impact Tim Walz’s campaign and the broader political landscape ahead of Election Day. The allegations raise serious questions about his character at a time when integrity and trust are at the forefront of voters’ minds.
