Fox News contributor and Pittsburgh columnist Salena Zito weighed in during an appearance on Fox & Friends Weekend, calling the “kids for cash” scheme “a profound scandal” in Pennsylvania’s history. Zito recounted the devastating aftermath of Conahan’s actions, including the suicide of a young man sentenced by the disgraced judge.
“This had a devastating impact on families,” Zito stated during the broadcast.
Sandy Fonzo, the mother of the young man who took his own life, also issued a statement condemning the president’s decision. “Conahan’s actions destroyed families, including mine, and my son’s death is a tragic reminder of the consequences of his abuse of power.”
Co-hosts Carley Shimkus and Kevin Corke expressed their disgust at the commutation. “So real consequences for what this individual did, to try and get money off of the lives of children,” Shimkus stated. Corke added, “We’re talking about children here. And to do it for money is beyond the pale.”

Special Counsel David Weiss has since filed motions opposing the dismissal of charges in Hunter Biden’s tax case, asserting, “There was none and never has been any evidence of vindictive or selective prosecution in this case.” Weiss emphasized that claims of political targeting by Hunter Biden had been rejected by multiple federal judges, including those appointed by both Republican and Democratic presidents.
