In yet another shocking failure of the immigration enforcement system, a 7-year-old girl tragically lost her life in a horrific car crash just months after the suspect, an illegal immigrant, had an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer inexplicably lifted.
On December 1, Joel Enrique Gonzalez Chacin, a 41-year-old Venezuelan national, allegedly caused a drunk-driving accident in Harris County, Texas, that claimed the life of Ivory Smith, a second-grade student at a Houston elementary school. Her mother, Christina Quainoo, who was behind the wheel when Chacin reportedly ran a red light and struck their car, suffered severe injuries.

According to Fox News, Chacin did not render aid at the scene. Instead, witnesses said he took pictures of the wreckage before fleeing, leaving the mother and daughter in critical condition. Authorities later arrested him and charged him with intoxicated manslaughter. ICE promptly reinstated a detainer on him following his arrest.
