According to inside sources, the vetting process under Biden’s HHS was so haphazard that it raised the possibility that as many as 60,000 children may have ended up in the hands of criminals, traffickers, or abusers.
Grassley’s investigation revealed that over 65,000 cases involving unaccompanied minors raised red flags with HHS staff. Workers warned that sponsors could be part of gangs, cartels, or even child sex trafficking rings.
Of those flagged cases, 7,346 were tied directly to potential human trafficking concerns. Incredibly, over 528 cases have already been referred to law enforcement — and 18 individuals have been charged with criminal offenses. The sheer scale of this crisis is staggering.
In a letter to HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Grassley pulled no punches, writing:
“Not a single child should continue to suffer because of the previous administration’s failures. This is a great first step in protecting these children, although HHS reports it has 46,311 backlogged cases still to work through.”
What’s perhaps most alarming is that, rather than confront the problem, the Biden-Harris administration actively obstructed efforts to investigate and remedy the crisis.
“My oversight exposed the Biden-Harris administration for placing unaccompanied migrant children with dangerous sponsors and actively obstructing law enforcement and Congress’ efforts to rescue vulnerable kids,” Grassley stated.
According to internal documents, HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra was warned about poor vetting procedures but chose to ignore those alarms. Instead of fixing the broken system, the administration prioritized speed over safety, pushing to move children out of custody as quickly as possible — regardless of where they ended up.
Grassley’s findings painted a chilling picture of sponsors involved in “trafficking, smuggling, and exploitation.” The Trump administration has already vowed to launch a comprehensive investigation into what it calls an unconscionable failure.
“I applaud the Trump administration for its swift action to protect unaccompanied migrant children by addressing the concerning reports the Biden-Harris administration shelved,” Grassley added.
While the left claimed that opening the borders was a humanitarian gesture, the real-world result has been catastrophic. Children were placed in the hands of abusers, all because Biden’s team prioritized political optics and mass immigration over child safety.
This isn’t just about bureaucratic mismanagement. This is about children being exploited, trafficked, and abused under a government that turned a blind eye.
The Biden administration created a border disaster and left thousands of children to pay the price. This is no longer just a political failure — it’s a moral one.
