Despite the massive government backing, Lion Electric struggled to stay afloat financially. The company ultimately halted construction on a nearly one-million-square-foot factory in Joliet, Illinois, after 18 months of work. Then, in a stunning development, Lion Electric filed for bankruptcy, abruptly laying off its employees and leaving school districts across the country in limbo.
What’s worse, the company collapsed just weeks after its executives assured investors that Lion was “well positioned to benefit from continued strong regulatory tailwinds.” That optimism was short-lived as the company failed to deliver on its obligations.
According to a report from the Washington Free Beacon, the EPA’s own records reveal that Lion Electric failed to deliver $95 million worth of school buses to at least 55 school districts. Now, school officials are left wondering if they will ever receive the buses they were promised.
“At this time we are working through the proper channels and keeping our attorneys abreast of the situation,” said Dawn Wallace, superintendent of the Ohio Valley School District, which had been counting on the buses to arrive. “No buses have been delivered to our district. We are on hold.”
The collapse of Lion Electric and the mismanagement of the Clean School Bus program have drawn sharp criticism. Former EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler, who served under President Trump, pointed the finger directly at Biden officials for rushing out money without proper oversight.
“The problem is they were dealing with so much money and they were trying to get it out so fast that they probably cut a lot of corners,” Wheeler explained. “It doesn’t surprise me at all that companies that received funding are going bankrupt or are going under.”
Amid growing concerns over taxpayer waste, newly appointed EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin has vowed to investigate the debacle. Reacting to reports of Lion Electric’s failure, Zeldin declared on social media, “My lawful duty to the American taxpayer is to END every last penny of waste and abuse at the EPA.”
House Energy and Commerce Chairman Brett Guthrie (R-KY) has also launched an investigation into the EPA’s handling of the program, blasting the administration for its reckless spending.
Just Released: Trump White House Collector’s Bobblehead!
“The Biden-Harris Administration spent four years wasting taxpayer dollars pursuing its Green New Deal agenda, which led to failed policy outcomes and soaring inflation for American families,” Guthrie stated. “Communities across the country are paying the price for the EPA’s decision to provide grants and rebates for electric school buses that may never be delivered.”
As the fallout from the electric bus fiasco unfolds, school districts are left holding the bag. With millions of dollars in undelivered buses and no clear resolution in sight, local officials are scrambling to find alternative transportation solutions for their students.
While Biden promised a greener future, his administration’s mismanagement has instead left schools across America struggling with empty promises and missing buses. This latest scandal is yet another example of how Biden’s rush to push his environmental agenda has resulted in waste, inefficiency, and financial disaster for the communities he claimed to help.
